The following are links to PDFs with instructions regarding the activities and major assignments I expect you to complete this semester.
PortfolioInstructions
The portfolio is worth 50% of your final grade. Your peers and I will give you extensive feedback on your writing, but you will not receive grades on the drafts of your portfolio papers. After I return the draft with my comments, you have the rest of the semester to revise your papers before submitting them for the portfolio. The portfolio will be composed of the following assignments.
Assignment #1: Argument and Authority
For this assignment, you will use The Omnivore's Dilemma to show where and how the video, Miracles from Agriculture, breaks down.
Assignment #2: Comparison and Contrast
For this assignment, you will compare and contrast two different food labels to show us how they teach audiences about themselves.
Assignment #3: Research Paper
For this assignment, you will compose a research paper on a topic of your choice.
Other Coursework
Other coursework is worth 50% of your final grade.
Rhetorical Analysis
For this assignment, you will select a food advertisement from a magazine or from television and examine its persuasive parts. This assignment is worth 10% of your final grade.
RhetoricCard Presentations
These are presentations you and a partner will conduct on our readings. You will have to create a rhetoric card on the reading which contains important information. It is worth 10% of your final grade.
Blogs
You are required to set up a blog and write responses to your readings. They are worth 10% of your final grade.
Quizzes1 & Quizzes2
Throughout the semester I will be giving quizzes on definitions, readings, and class experiences. They are worth 10% of your final grade.
Annotated Bibliography
This is a bibliography you will use to help you write Assignment #3. It is worth 10% of your final grade.
